Every once in a while I get inspired by something I see on social media and try to make a version of it myself and this time a saw a post of some custom designed controllers on the ground which for whatever reason turned the light-bulb in my head.
I started off with extruding a cube with a sub-surface modifier to get the general shape of a controller.

Afterwards I applied the modifier so I can get to play with the more dense geometry. I now had the more dense mesh so I edited it to resemble a controller even more and modelled and added buttons as well plus I made some design decisions to make it look more interesting.

For the materials I did not do anything super fancy I just used this addon called BlenderKit which essentially has a lot of models/materials/collections and even full scenes that you could use in your projects. I quickly grabbed materials I thought worked well and added them to my model.

After this was done I added some basic lighting that I later was going to animate along with the environment lighting as well.

At the very end I added the animation of everything all the lights, the controller, the environment light, the camera and I also played with the animation curves to get better results

And finally I just rendered the whole thing so I could see the proper lighting and everything together. All in all I am quite happy with this project, there are a couple of things I would like to change but as this was literally a 3 hour project from start to finish that I did before going to sleep, I thought I should keep it as is.
The things I could do better are:
Play with the Topology a bit more as there a few places where I do not need that much topology even with taking UVs and distortion into account.
Have proper UVs .
Use better materials/make materials in Substance Designer.
Improve the Camera shots and movements by having another one in-between the 2nd and 3rd shot where some sort of abstract effect happens
Play a bit more with the lighting so it is spot on and really shows the model the best way it can
For all of you lovely people that read to the end here is the final render 🙂
